A busy launch - but fun

by Sarah Pope ~ May 21st, 2009. Filed under: Terminate The Rate.

Yesterday I got home just after 11:00pm and I was shattered, but I’d had a top day. We launched a campaign and it’s all about conversations, which is good because I like talking. I especially like talking about things I’m passionate about; cars, football and termination rates. It’s a subject that has consumed me lately, it’s been keeping me awake at night and now I can finally start talking about what we plan to do about it, I talked all day.

What I enjoyed most were conversations with people whose lives don’t revolve around the world of telecoms. The different responses you get when you explain Termination Rates are intriguing - I’ve seen all sorts from outright anger to bewilderment and even a little embarrassment. Have I missed something? Surely I should know about this? Well no, probably not, it’s been a well kept secret within the world of telecoms for sometime.

Tomorrow we’ll be at Tuttle, a social media café where a group of guys and girls meet to find ways of working better together both online and off. We’re heading over to talk briefly about the Terminate the Rate campaign. My thanks go to Lloyd Davis for having us along.

  1. The termination rates are negotiated with the mobile phone networks, while BT insist on their cut to cover the cost of maintaining the hardware and software to operate the conversion of calls between a mobile phone and a landline phone through the phone exchanges - similarly between mobile phone networks. Why should the customer pay the charges for these company operating overheads? The 3 network is part of the Hutchison group which is a Chinese company with operations and offices in the UK, as ‘three’, ‘orange’, and ‘Hutchison Whampoa’ for 3 mobile broadband. Hutchison is part of the Cheung Kong group of China and is a small operation in the UK; the operations in China include hotels, property management and so on.
