Coverage continues on Terminate the Rate
by Tom Hall ~ May 27th, 2009. Filed under: In The News.Terminate the Rate is continuing to receive coverage in the press. Sue Gyford of the News.Scotsman.com has drilled down into the facts and figures around the campaign and mentions Ofcom’s pledge that their review of the situation will benefit consumers. Something a fall in the price of MTRs would certainly do.
The article also quotes Stephen Alambritis, spokesperson for the Federation of Small Businesses, supporter of Terminate the Rate, “Lower termination rates are good for business, good for consumers and good for the economy.”
The Times has also covered the story in its Tech & Web section with quotes from 3 CEO Kevin Russell and the reasons as to why MTRs exist in the first place. There is also a quote from Ed Richards, Chief Executive of Ofcom, “The role of termination rates in mobile services has attracted enormous controversy. That is why we are determined to examine them from first principles. This consultation gives consumers and industry an opportunity to debate the fundamental questions.”

As a pensioner I am home most of the time and use my land line.
My mobile is just for emergencies.
It’s ironic that while my children and grandchildren are much more contactable than I was when I was their age thanks to mobile phones, yet I seldom call them on their mobiles as it costs so much. Usually I have to call them and ask them to call me back! If anything could be done to lower mobile phone charges it would be great for other grandparents too.
