Mobile Today on Terminate the Rate
by Tom Hall ~ May 28th, 2009. Filed under: In The News.Mobile Today has been talking Mobile Termination Rates (MTRs) and the Terminate the Rate campaign being led by 3 and BT.
The article covers those backing the campaign wanting MTRs lowered to create reduced call costs for the consumer and fair competition within the industry. However, there is opposition to this as Mobile Today discusses, “T-Mobile and O2 argued if termination rates were reduced too drastically then costs would have to be met by ‘other means’, such as increased charges on consumers’ bills.”
According to Kevin Russell CEO of 3UK though, “Since termination rates have decreased, traffic has gone up”, and sees the arguments against the initiative as scaremongering and rhetoric. This is supported by the words of BT’s managing director of consumer and retail, John Petter, which are also contained in the article.

Strange how BT want to get involved in this.
After all, what is now ‘O2′, was once ‘BT CELLNET’!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it me or does it now sound hypocritical.
I agree that the charge is excessive and would welcome a reduction though.
