Today’s post comes from Kirsty Marrins Communications Officer for the campaign partner For Dementia.

For Dementia, a national charity committed to improving the quality of life for people affected by dementia through the provision of Admiral Nurses (specialist nurses in dementia care), the national helpline Admiral Nursing DIRECT, high quality affordable training and supporting the national network Uniting Carers for dementia.

Joy Watkins our Resource Co-ordinator for Uniting Carers for dementia formulates best why we’re supporting Terminate the Rate, “For Dementia and Uniting Carers for dementia are delighted to support the Terminate the Rate Campaign. Carers of loved ones with dementia are faced daily with escalating costs in living and yet there is no increase in their income. Mobile phones play an important role in most people’s lives but for carers they are often vital. We welcome any move to cut the costs that carers face and to help them financially to provide the best possible care they can for their loved one without the added stress of worrying about paying bills. We challenge other companies imposing unfair hidden costs on consumers to ‘Terminate the Rate’.”

We see this as a serious issue and we’re not alone, the fact that over 150 MPs have signed the petition shows that this is being recognised as such in Parliament. We hope that it will not be long before telecom regulators are forced to provide clear and fair costs for termination rates. From For Dementia’s perspective, this could not come soon enough for carers in the UK, some of which are struggling with escalating costs with no foreseeable increase to their incomes. We welcome a swift and speedy motion in favour of significantly lowering MTRs.

We feel that the importance of this campaign cannot be underestimated and we are urging our supporters, particularly carers, to sign up to the campaign by featuring it on our website and the July edition of eNews as well as posting the campaign on both our Facebook and Twitter profiles.
