More partners join Terminate the Rate
by Tom Hall ~ September 25th, 2009. Filed under: Campaign Supporters, In The News, Terminate The Rate.Terminate the Rate has been given a boost as further partners join the campaign to lower Mobile Termination Rates (MTRs). The four new backers, as reported by Mobile News, are family charity 4Children, financial advice company the Institute of Money Advisors (IMA), family care helpers Crossroads Care and business advice website Moneymagpie.com (whose involvement you may have already read about).
SelectMobile 4Children’s focus and reason for getting involved is because they believe keeping friends and relatives connected is an important part of life, in particular when it comes to the elderly or those that live far away.
Envirfone.com has also covered the news with both IMA executive director Caroline Siarkiewicz and chief executive of Crossroads Care Anne Roberts giving the reasons their organisations are supporting Terminate the Rate.
There is also a small piece on the latest partners at MobileShop.com.
Terminate the Rate is still collecting signatures…

Great Rip Off Britain. On Mobile Phones here is a great example:
I was and still am a Pay as you Go user on Vodafone. I went to live in Cyprus 2008. When there I purchased a Sim card for the Vodafone network there. I also purchased a sim card for Turkcell in the North of Cyprus. I found that on CytaVoda calls were less than half what I was paying Vodafone in UK even when calling the UK!
Further more here is a great example of Vodafone rip off. Using the Turkcell Sim card with £20 of credit I called my father’s home in the UK (landline) and spoke for 31 minutes, I had £16.20 of credit left. I then went back to visit my father 2 weeks later and put my Vodafone sim card into my mobile and Topped up £20. I then called my wife at our home in Cyprus (Landline) and after 4.5 minutes I was cut off as I had ran out of credit. If these companies are using the same satillites etc why are we Ripped Off big style by Vodafone in the UK??? It cant or should’nt be 0.15p per minute to call one way and £5 per minute to call the other. Oh and don’t beleive their cacellation of Roaming charges I put my Vodafone sim card in my phone in Cyprus July 2009 and it cost me £130 in calls back to the UK and to Vodafone customer services. When I called Vodafone customer services as the roaming charges were not working they charged me big style for calling their recordings just to say Roaming charges did not count where I was. But the add states in 35 countries in Europe!! Cyprus is in Europe.
Keep up the great work to lower MTRs!
A lot of our users have similar grievances about data plans that are marketed as ‘unlimited’ but later attract surcharges.
